Consultations, Strategy & What To Expect
Most people do not reach out to a family lawyer because life feels settled. By the time someone contacts my office, there is usually a decision that needs to be made, a situation that has been building for a while, or a level of uncertainty that has become hard to carry alone.
What Happens First
When you first reach out, someone from my office handles the first call, scheduling, and intake.
That is intentional. It keeps the first step organized and keeps the logistics from slowing everything down. If it makes sense to schedule time with me, my office can help get that on the calendar.
You are not hiring my office for legal judgment.
You are hiring me for that.
That usually means hearing the basic history, identifying the immediate pressure points, and sorting out whether the issue is mainly about parenting, finances, an existing order, or some combination of those things.
I also use that conversation to tell you what I think the situation is likely to involve.
Sometimes the answer is that you should not wait too long to get legal advice.
Sometimes the answer is that you need more information before making a move.
Sometimes the answer is that acting too quickly could do real damage.
What I Use The Consultation For
I use the consultation to understand what is actually going on and what may need attention first.
How I Think About Fit And Strategy
Before we discuss a strategy, I want to understand your situation, your priorities, and what you need to move forward. That helps us decide whether my experience and approach fit your needs, and whether working together makes sense for both of us.
If we decide to work together, I build the strategy around your circumstances. That may mean negotiating a settlement or taking firmer action when needed. I explain your options and tradeoffs so you can weigh each step against your key priorities.
As your case moves forward, I stay directly involved in the legal analysis, strategy, and key decisions. I help you understand what has changed, what it means, and whether our approach needs to change.
Common Questions
Will I Talk Directly with Natalie?
Yes. I conduct the consultation and discuss the legal questions with you. My office handles the initial inquiry, scheduling, and intake before we speak.
Do I Need to Prepare Anything Before We Talk?
Be ready to give a brief overview of what has happened, your main concerns, and any upcoming court dates or deadlines. Note any relevant court papers, existing orders, or financial records. If documents are needed, my office will explain what to provide and how to share them.
Will You Tell Me if the Matter is Not a Fit?
Yes. The consultation helps us assess whether my experience and approach match what your matter needs. If I do not believe I am the right lawyer for you, I will explain that rather than recommend moving forward together.
